Route 66 managed to cross its own path in Albuquerque. It took two different versions of the road to do it.
Before 1937, the route ran north–south along 4th Street. After the realignment, it ran east–west along Central Avenue. Their intersection gives an ordinary downtown corner an unusually complicated relationship with a famous highway.
“Crossed My Own Path” marks that meeting of old directions and new ones. A souvenir for people who read the roadside signs and check the map twice.
