December 1965. NASA’s Gemini 6 astronauts reported spotting a mysterious object travelling through space.
Its pilot appeared to be wearing a red suit.
Then they played Jingle Bells on a harmonica and sleigh bells they’d smuggled aboard.
One of the earliest musical performances in space was also an elaborate Christmas joke.
This radar-inspired design commemorates an unusually festive moment in the space race.
