According to the best-known local account, Banana, Queensland, owes its name to a working bullock rather than a fruit crop. The story describes a steady, dun-coloured animal used to lead wilder cattle into the yards. Accounts differ on the details, but the bullock remains a celebrated part of local lore.
This ornate portrait gives him the formal treatment: a distinguished face, an impressive frame and no apparent qualifications beyond being very good with cattle.
